Site designs

The Stitchery - Textures and shadows give this sample design for a fictional fabric store a fun 3-D effect!
Allegiance NanoSolutions - A new company specializing in microscopic analysis of nanotechnology projects hired me to build a website to match their design specifications.
Vermont Product Stewardship Council - The Product Policy Institute contracted me to help them build a series of websites for state product stewardship councils. Vermont was the first, and I helped them modify their basic layout to look good with their logo and give it some style.
Bottle Bill Resource Guide - About two years after the redesign of the Bottle Bill Toolkit, I took on the new project of redesigning its parent site. In this comprehensive site overhaul, I gave it a more modern interface and a more interesting header, cleaned up all the HTML code, and tried to make the content more usable.
Flying Deer Nature Center - The Flying Deer Nature Center hired me to update their content on a yearly basis. In the bargain, I redesigned the site to give it a more appealing and "natural" look. The new version of the site is XHTML 1.0 compliant as well.
Yo!Mah's House of the DragonStarr - In exchange for discounted rent, I created this website for my landlady to advertise her new-age business. I used some images she had drawn and created a site that I thought reflected the spirit behind them.
The Great and Powerful Todd - I designed this unique homepage and set of basic site styles for a friend. The main concern was to make it an eye-catching reflection of his interests and personality.
Bottle Bill Toolkit - As my first major web design project, I redesigned this site of the Container Recycling Institute in 2006. In addition to making a more interesting and navigable interface, I also updated the content to make it more usable.

Odds & Ends

Animalphone - Animalphone is a musical instrument that uses the voices of nature as its notes. Designed for a graduate class, this project was an exercise in interactivity and programming as well as design.
Photo Credit script - Searching for a way to give credit to photos on a website without disrupting the page layout, I invented this script that makes the photo credit (or caption) appear in front of the image when it is moused over.
Table Rows - As CRI's media collection grew larger and larger, changing the color of the rows grew more and more tedious. Eventually I wrote a script to color the rows automatically, so anyone editing the page can insert a row anywhere and rest assured that the alternating pattern will not be disturbed.
Quote Box - Our collection of quotes from bottle bill supporters was quite long. Concerned that no one would bother to read the whole thing, I decided to display one at random every time the page was loaded. I extended the script so that the viewer can choose a new quote and see it change, along with the frame's background color.
Light-Up Map - To add interest to a list of countries, I got a map of the world, and wrote a script to "light up" a country's geographic area when a user mouses over its name.
CRI Media Page - While the original media book was, indeed, original, its abstract look didn’t quite match the site’s overall feel. I simplified the whole media section by arranging the main page chronologically and providing the option to browse articles by topic.
Expand and Shrink - Probably my favorite script in this list, it's not only functional, but fun to look at, too! I took an extensive list of links, categorized them, and made it possible to show and hide the categories.
CRI Homepage - CRI's homepage had a chronological, text-heavy vibe that seemed plain and uninteresting. I tried to make it friendlier by categorizing the information and grouping it within colorful blocks.
